The government released an updated policy document regarding the Environmental Improvement Plan 2023. This initiative expands upon the vision established by the 25 Year Environment Plan from 2018, which focused on achieving cleaner air and water across urban and countryside areas.
The original 25YEP sought to “protect threatened species and wildlife habitats and a more sustainable approach to agriculture, forestry, land use and fishing.” The newer plan outlines how regulatory bodies will execute environmental improvement objectives with measurable interim targets for tracking advancement. The 2023 update emphasises intensified efforts targeting fine particulates (PM2.5) and ammonia emissions from agricultural activities.
